FAQ
Applying for a shift at a camping event is a little different from other festivals. We know there are extra things to consider, like getting to the venue, available facilities, and the overall setup. To make things easier and avoid any surprises later, we’ve put together this FAQ to answer the most common questions before you apply.
Please take a moment to read through it carefully. This way, you’ll know exactly what to expect, and we can ensure a smooth experience for everyone involved. If you still have questions, feel free to reach out, we’re happy to help!

WHAT TYPE OF SHIFTS ARE THERE?
There are plenty of things you can help with during Mysteryland, namely:
Collect & Clean
Join our eco-team as a Separation Legend! You’ll work with a high-efficiency machine to sort cans, bottles, and PET cups from delivered waste streams—helping keep the festival clean and green.
Green Team
With the largest volunteer team at Mysteryland, you will be patrolling the grounds and keeping the terrain out of waste. All in all, collecting valuable resources like cans, bottles and PET cups while taking a stroll and enjoying the beautiful grounds of Mysteryland.
Cup Stop
In this shift, you will operate as a “guard” located at the entrances to the festival terrain to prevent camping waste from entering the terrain. Cups, bottles, Statiegeld? No, thank you! Instead, you can offer a recycling token to the visitor.
Binbag Handout
We would need your most welcoming approach for the new-coming campers to make sure that every camp gets their own bin bag to collect their own waste. Promoting “the green” and providing the visitors with necessary information would help us all in keeping the grounds clean.
Carousel
Join to help facilitate a whirligig (flying carousel), scan tickets, and bring the visitors just a bit more magic and fun!
Flex Team
This one is quite straight-forward! As it says in the name, you are flexible and ready to assist wherever help is needed the most! If you feel like you’re versatile and just want to be helpful – then this shift is perfect for you!
WHAT DOES EACH PACKAGE MEAN?
Since this is a weekend festival, we work with packages. These packages have been carefully designed considering volunteering hours, rest hours and, of course, party hours! They all consist of different days and times.
You will be expected to be present at each shift that is included in the package (2-3 shifts throughout the weekend), but there will be enough time to party also!
Cannot make it all the days? No problem! We have a variety of packages with different dates as well as a few single-day shifts.
Choose your package wisely: if you sign up for a shift, we expect you to be there.
WHERE WILL I SLEEP DURING MYSTERYLAND AND WHEN CAN I COME?
All volunteers will be camping together at the crew camping area. This is possible from Thursday 21st until Monday 25th of August, but only one day before your first shift of the package. For example, if your first shift is on Saturday, you can place your tent on Friday. We recommend coming the day before your first shift so that you have some time to pitch your tent and so that you do not have to worry about being late for your shift. If you come early please know that you can only go onto the camping grounds until you complete your first shift. Please make sure to bring your own tent, mattress, as well as other camping gear.
ARE THERE SHOWERS AVAILABLE AT THE CREW CAMPING?
Yes, there will be showers and toilets available at the crew camping.
IS THE CREW CAMPING THE SAME AS THE VISITORS’ CAMPING?
No, the crew camping is separate from the visitors’ camping. This means that if your friends are visitors, they are not allowed to come to the crew camping area.
Also, if you are doing shifts with Revolution Academy, know that it is mandatory to stay at the crew camping.
ARE TRAVEL COSTS COVERED?
No, Revolution Academy does not cover any transportation costs. This includes flight and train costs.
WHAT DO I HAVE TO BRING?
Feel free to bring anything you think you will need throughout the weekend but make sure to leave your valuable belongings at home. Here is a pack list we have created for you:
- Tent
- Air mattress + bedding
- Pillow
- Food + drinks
- Toiletries
- Towel

- At least two pairs of shoes
- Your best festival outfits
- Lounging clothes
- Warm clothes to sleep in (it can get cold at night)

DO I HAVE TO SPEAK DUTCH TO VOLUNTEER?
No. All communication will be done in English.
HOW WILL I BE GUIDED BEFORE AND DURING MYSTERYLAND?
A week prior to the event, you will be added to the WhatsApp groups for your specific shifts. There, you will receive your task description. You will also receive a briefing on your mailbox. Make sure to read them to be ready for show day!
During the festival, you will be briefed by your supervisor. This person will be your contact person during your shift. If you have questions, doubts, or comments you can always reach out to them. They will also be in your WhatsApp group.
WHEN AND WHERE DO I HAVE TO REPORT FOR MY SHIFT?
Your supervisor will share the exact location and time with you prior to your shift.
